ホテル「ザ・ペニンシュラ」 フカヒレ提供を停止 Nikkie.com 【香 港=川瀬憲司】高級ホテル「ザ・ペニンシュラ」などを展開する香港上海大酒店は21日、来年1月1日からフカヒレの提供を全面的に停止すると発表した。高 級食材として珍重されるフカヒレの需要を満たすためサメの乱獲が続き、一部の種は絶滅の危機にひんしているとされる。他の高級ホテルチェーンや飲食店に影 響を及ぼす可能性もありそうだ。 香港や東京、ニューヨークなど全世界9カ所の「ザ・ペニンシュラ」をはじめ、同社が運営するすべてのレストランでフカヒレ料理の提供を取りやめる。ただし、21日より前に予約を受け付けていた注文については、来年以降も対応する。 同社の郭敬文・最高経営責任者(CEO)は「我々の決断が、世界の次世代の海洋環境維持に寄与できることを期待している」とのコメントを発表した。 中国の経済成長に伴う所得増加などを背景に、フカヒレの需要は増加している。動物愛護団体などはサメの保護を理由に、フカヒレを食べる行為 そのものを見直すよう求めている。郭CEOは「我々の決断が(ホテルや飲食など)他の接客業界にも同様の行動をとるよう促すきっかけになることを期待して いる」としている。 Photo Copyright PangeaSeed 2010
